Sightseeing on a Winter’s Day in Copenhagen
November 2011Rundetarrn means Round Tower in English and that’s literally what you’ll do here, go round and round and round and round! The spiral walk in the Rundetaarn is totally unique in European architecture. The 209 meter long spiral ramp winds itself 7.5 times round the hollow core of the tower. In 1726, Russia’s Czar Peter the Great climbed the circular path on horseback while visiting Copenhagen and his wife rode behind him in a two-wheeled carriage.
Located halfway up the tower is the entrance to the stunningly beautiful Library Hall, which now serves as an exhibit gallery and concert hall. Hosting several exhibitions a year and weekly concerts, this is a perfect place to warm your bones on a winter day.

I don’t like cold weather, and I can’t imagine visiting Denmark in the winter, but I’m glad you introduced the rundetarn. A tower with a ramp instead of steps. That’s my speed.
Making our rounds on the Carnival of Cities. I had never considered Copenhagen for a Girlfriends Getaway! Great post.
Great post. There are so many wonderful attractions, landmarks and fun neighborhoods to visit in Copenhagen.
