A bike trip through Loire Valley is a perfect holiday for the casual cyclist, it is relatively flat and the distances from pretty village to lovely cities to gorgeous chateaux are easily reached by midday, leaving plenty of time for un verre de vin or a picnic while exploring the countryside.
We spent ten days exploring the Loire on an independent cycle trip with Belle France, an experienced cycle tour agency that supplied bicycles as well as ensuring our hotels, a meal plan and transfers were looked after. All we had to do was enjoy the bike ride and explore the nooks and crannies of France’s famed Loire Valley.
A Tour of Chambord
Plan to arrive early to this enormous estate, you’ll need time to fully explore the grounds and chateau. There is little in the way of furnishings in the chateau but it is still awe-worthy. The double helix staircase and the grandeur of the architecture make Chambord one of the most visited chateaux in France.
Biking Through the Loire
One of the best advantages of biking through Loire Valley is the scenery. You meander through forests, vineyards, pastures and along the riverbank, it is France and it is beautiful.
Another Day Another Beautiful Chateau
In all, we toured six chateaux during our time in the Loire Valley, they were all special but if you can only see a couple of chateaux then you should put Château de Chenonceau on your must-visit list. Chenonceau has passed through the hands of some of France’s most important women who have all played their part in improving and making the chateau a magical place in France.
