Brave Betty Travel Bra
Traveling as a woman can have some challenges. Safety and security are usually top of mind for many of us when planning a trip, and even more so when we are heading out to a country that is known as a place where thieves are targeting tourists and travelers.
How do you deal with carrying a passport, cash and credit cards when you know your purse or knapsack is a tempting treat dangling in front of a robber’s eye? You can wear a money belt but these are a hassle to deal with and not fun to wear. It’s kinda hard to look awesome with a cute see-through tee and a bulky black money belt wrapped around your waist.
Janet Devins, designer of the Brave Betty Travel Bra, decided during one of her many long-term trips that there had to be a better solution. She tells us that she came up with the idea of a secure travel bra while traveling through Morocco and heading out on a solo trip into the desert.
“As I was repacking my backpack I started to wonder what I should do with my passport, credit card and cash – none of these things I was actually going to need right away, yet I had to take them with me. Money belts are okay, and I have used them in the past, but honestly who doesn’t know about them and where they are located? So with some scissors, a needle and thread I did a hasty modification to an old sports bra- it wasn’t pretty but it worked! But it wasn’t until a few years later; after having the waist of my shirt lifted up at a market in Nairobi, that I really got serious about designing BRAVE BETTY.” Janet Devins.
