Marie Antoinette’s Village in Versailles

Versailles

Pretty in Pictures

The Hameau de la Reine (The Queen’s Hamlet) is a rustic retreat in the park of the Château de Versailles. It was built for Marie Antoinette between 1785 and 1792 as a place to get away from the court life of the Palace. The little hamlet included a farmhouse, a dairy, a dovecote, a boudoir, a barn, a mill and a tower in the form of a lighthouse. Each building is decorated with a garden, an orchard or a flower garden. We agree with Marie, this photogenic little village makes for a great girl’s getaway!
